TUSCULUM NAMES 73 TO SAC COMMISSIONER’S HONOR ROLL

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Seventy-three Tusculum College student-athletes have been named to the 2007-08 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll announced league officials Thursday.  The conference had 644 student-athletes honored for their achievements in the classroom.

The SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes those student-athletes who carry at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have completed at least one season in the sports of football, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s golf.

Tusculum’s 73 honorees were tied for the fourth most in the conference with in-state rival Carson-Newman.  Newberry led the way with 105 honorees, followed by Mars Hill (101), Wingate (86), Tusculum, Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne (71), Catawba (68) and Lincoln Memorial (67).

The 644 student-athletes represent 36 U.S. states, 28 foreign countries and three Canadian provinces.  More than 26 percent (169) of the honorees held grade point averages of 3.75 or higher.  Of those, 22 carried a perfect 4.00 GPA including Tusculum cross country runner Simon Holzapfel (Nuremberg, Germany).

Of Tusculum’s honorees, 18 have earned All-Conference, All-Region or All-American recognition during their careers.
