TUSCULUM POSTS BEST FINISH FOR NACDA DIRECTORS’ CUP

 

Frankie DeBusk                DALLAS, Texas --- The Tusculum College athletic department finished 83rd of 272 NCAA Division II colleges and universities in the final 2007-08 U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup standings, its best showing in school history.

 

                The U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) to the best overall collegiate athletics program in the country.  Points are awarded by virtue of national postseason success.

 

                The Pioneers earned a total of 214 points as six teams advanced to the NCAA II postseason representing Tusculum.  The previous best was in the 2004-05 season as TC earned 170 points to place 93rd.

 

                “Our finish in this year’s NACDA Directors’ Cup standings is just another testimony to the overall depth and quality of our program,” said Frankie DeBusk, TC Director of Athletics.  “Our student-athletes and coaches work very hard on a daily basis to compete at the highest level.  They should be very proud of this accomplishment.”

 

                During the recently concluded 2007-08 academic year, six teams advanced to NCAA II Championship postseason play.  The College was represented in the NCAA Tournament by its baseball, women’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s tennis teams.

 

                “We are very appreciative to our College administration for their support of our department,” DeBusk added.  “Since becoming a Division II member (1998), our department has continued to show improvement each year.  This has been a team effort and something that the entire Tusculum College community should be proud of.”

 

                Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn. and affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA, is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of nine colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
