TUSCULUM TENNIS SWEEPS JOHNSON C. SMITH

CHARLOTTE --- The Tusculum College men and women's tennis teams swept a pair of matches against host Johnson C. Smith University Saturday afternoon.  The Pioneers won by identical scores of 9-0 in the first matches of the season.

In the women's match, Tusculum (1-0) lost only two games in doubles play, including an 8-0 sweep at the No. 3 flight by the rookie duo of Jenn Sparks and Amanda Pike as they defeated Brittany Laws and Nisa Kibana.

In singles play, Sparks also posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 flight against Gabrielle Muhammad.

The Tusculum men (1-0) were also victorious as Sergio Espinosa rallied from a set down to defeat Roman Douglas 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.  Espinosa and Carlos Garcia won at No. 1 doubles 8-2.

Tusculum returns to action Friday, Oct. 14 when it hosts Concord University for a doubleheader at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
