TUSCULUM TENNIS TEAMS SWEEP WINGATE
WINGATE, N.C. --- The Tusculum College tennis teams swept a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Wingate University Sunday afternoon at the Wingate University tennis facility. The No. 33 Tusculum women prevailed 8-1, while the Pioneer men won 6-3.
On the women’s side, Wingate sophomore Erika Gluckstal won the only match for the Bulldogs. Gluckstal defeated Tusculum freshman Lindsey Kurtz 6-1, 6-2 at the number four singles flight.
At the number one singles flight, Pioneer junior Claudia Bolivar defeated Bulldog sophomore Alexis McDaniel 7-6 (1), 6-3. Tusculum improves to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the SAC. Wingate falls to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.
For the Wingate men, Bulldog senior Jacobo Uribe defeated Pioneer senior Roberto Robles 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at the number one singles flight. Wingate junior Joe Kanekar topped Tusculum senior Jesse Puckerin 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6) at the number two singles flight.
Earlier in the day, Uribe and Kanekar combined to take the number one doubles match 9-8 (3) over TC freshmen Sergio Espinosa and Carlos Garcia. Pioneer sophomores Michael Hallford and Julien Jacob won two matches each for the visitors. Tusculum is 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the league. Wingate is 3-8 overall and 2-1 in the SAC.
