MONTEVALLO
EDGES TUSCULUM
1-0 IN MEN’S SOCCER
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Jonathan Maloney’s penalty kick goal in
the 40th minute was enough to send the Montevallo men’s soccer
team into the win column as the Falcons defeated host Tusculum College
2-0 Sunday nigth at Pioneer Field.
UM’s Melford James, Jr. was brilliant in goal as he
recorded the shutout and posted six saves, including a stellar stop in the final
minute of the match on a shot by Matthew
Ross that would have been the equalizer.
The match remained scoreless for
most of the opening period until Tusculum
was whistled for a foul in the box, awarding Maloney the penalty kick. Maloney found the top right corner past the
diving Lance Moore to put the
Falcons up 1-0.
It was the only shot to get by Moore all day as he went
the distance while recording six saves, including several at point-blank range.
Tusculum
(0-2) returns to Friday when the Pioneers travel to Williamsburg, Ky.
to face the University of the Cumberlands.
