TC DEFEATS SALEM INTERNATIONAL 3-1
IN OPENER
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The No. 6 Tusculum College men’s soccer team opened its season with
a 3-1 victory over Salem International Friday at Pioneer Field. (Box

The
Pioneers controlled the tempo for much of the match and out-shot the Tigers
18-9. TC scored all three of its goals
in the first half.
Tusculum’s first goal came in the 14th minute when Tony Prisco (Woodbridge,
Va.) drilled a direct shot from 15 yards
out off an assist from Johann Contaste
(Santa Cruz, Trinidad). The Pioneers added another goal when Justin VanMatre (St.
Louis, Mo.) drove a shot past
the outstretched arms of SIU goalkeeper Daniel
Carr (London, England) in the 32nd minute. Contaste also made the assist on the second
goal.
The
final goal of the half, which ultimately proved to be the Pioneers’ last of
the match, came as time was winding down in period.
Jeremy Partin (Germantown, Ohio) launched
a laser pass down field to Malick Jobe
(Stockholm, Sweden) who scored the breakaway goal
with just 12 seconds remaining before intermission.
Salem
International made its way onto the scoreboard in the 76th minute
of play when Milan Rakic (Belgrade, Serbia)
nailed a free kick past Pioneer keeper J.P.
Swaminathan (Brampton,
Ontario). The
goal proved to be the only tally of the evening for the Tigers.
Tusculum will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 4, when it
faces Alderson-Broaddus at 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
