BAILEY, JOBE RECORD HAT TRICKS, NO. 1 TUSCULUM THWARTS CHARLESTON 10-0

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Dave Bailey and Malick Jobe each recorded a hat-trick in the opening half as the top-ranked Tusculum College men’s soccer team blanked visiting University of Charleston 10-0 Friday night at Pioneer Field.  The Pioneers, who are ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II for the first time in school history, improves to 3-0 on the season.  The Golden Eagles fall to 0-3 on the year.                 Tusculum tied a school match record with its 10 assists Friday night, including three helpers from Damion Scott (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and two from Gerald Watt (Brampton, Ontario, Canada).

 

                It took Bailey (Jonesboro, Ga.) just under 30 minutes to record his hat trick as he posted the Pioneers’ first three goals in the match.  The first two were assisted by Watt, while Scott and Justin Vanmatre (St. Louis, Mo.) posted a double assist on the third goal.

 

                Jobe’s hat-trick came quicker as he found the back of the net three times in a span of 5:13.  The Stockholm, Sweden native recorded an unassisted goal at the 34:27 mark, added another one two minutes later and capped off his hat trick with a goal in the 40th minute to move TC up 6-0.

 

                Matt Ross (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) recorded his first goal of the season 13 seconds into the second half as he scored on an assist by Tony Prisco.  Prisco (Woodbridge, Va.) would add his name to the scoring column at the 59:00 mark when he scored from 12 yards away on an assist by Bailey.

 

                Jay Harris (London, England) and Ryan Butler (Herts, England) recorded their first goals of the season to round out Tusculum’s scoring.

 

                The Pioneers out-shot Charleston by a 37-2 margin.  UC keeper Brent Wilson (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) recorded eight saves, while reserve Reese Van Wyen (Manassas, Va.) added four stops in the second half.

 

                Tusculum will open South Atlantic Conference play this Sunday afternoon when it hosts Newberry College for a 4 p.m. match.  The Pioneers and Indians played to a 2-2 tie last season.

 

                Charleston will return home and host Catawba College on Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. contest at Schoenbaum Stadium at Coonskin Park.
