YAMASHITA, HOPKINS SCORE TWO IN 6-1 ROUT OF CHARLESTON
CHARLESTON, W.Va. --- Senior Paul Hopkins (Portsmouth, England) and junior Kohei Yamashita (Tokyo, Japan) each scored two goals as the 15th-ranked Tusculum College men's soccer team ran its record to 4-0 with a 6-1 win over the University of Charleston Saturday evening.
The match was scoreless until the 42nd minute when Yamashita scored on a pass from junior Jaime Harvey (Hampshire, England). Junior Gerald Watt (Brampton, Ontario) gave the Pioneers a two-goal cushion two minutes later driving home a direct kick.
Hopkins scored the first of his two goals in the 63rd minute on a penalty kick. Yamashita added his second of the match seven minutes later on a pass from freshman Tony Prisco (Woodbridge, Va.).
After a Charleston goal with 13 minutes left in the match, goals by Hopkins and freshman Nathan de Freitas (Riceville, Tenn.) in the final eight minutes put the match away.
Tusculum (4-0) opens South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday when it hosts Lenoir-Rhyne College at 7 p.m.
