No. 13 PIONEERS POUR IT ON LATE IN 7-0 SHUTOUT OF LENOIR-RHYNE
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Six different players scored goals and Tusculum College tallied five goals in the final 30 minutes of play as the 13th-ranked Pioneers opened South Atlantic Conference play with a 7-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne College in a men's soccer match Wednesday night at Pioneer Field. The scoring began in the 18th minute when senior Andre Nesfield (Arima, Trinidad) headed in a corner kick off the foot of junior Gerald Watt (Brampton, Ontario, Canada). Nesfield added his second of the night less than three minutes later thanks to a nice series of touches from Watt and senior Paul Hopkins (Portsmouth, England).
TC went almost 40 minutes without scoring before beginning its run at the 59:54 mark. Senior Alexander Eddo (Brown Hill, Nevis, West Indies) tallied his first of the season off a pass from senior Jonathan Gordon (Glasgow, Scotland). Watt recorded his fourth point of the night in the 65th minute on a direct kick.
Tusculum scored its last three goals of the night in the final 20 minutes as the Bears were forced to play three men down.
Sophomore J.P. Swaminathan (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) went the first 80 minutes in goal for the Pioneers, making one save.
Tusculum (5-0) continues league play next Tuesday when it hosts Presbyterian College at 7 p.m. Lenoir-Rhyne (1-2-1) entertains Alderson-Broaddus College Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
