No. 10 PIONEERS BLANK PRESBYTERIAN 2-0
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Freshman Matt Ross' (Brampton, Ontario) first career goal in the seventh minute was the only goal Tusculum College needed as the 10th-ranked Pioneers shutout Presbyterian College 2-0 Tuesday night in men's soccer action at Pioneer Field. (Box Score)
Ross got the Pioneers on the board early, thanks to a pass from senior Andre Nesfield (Arima, Trinidad). Nesfield crossed the ball on the ground across the goal mouth to Ross, who beat his defender for the score.
TC went almost 62 minutes before scoring an insurance goal. Senior Paul Hopkins (Portsmouth, England) tallied his team-leading seventh of the season right at the 69-minute mark. Junior Jay Harris' (London, England) header bounced off the crossbar to Hopkins, who put it away.
The Blue Hose dominated play in the second half, but was outshot by TC in the final frame 9-8.
Sophomore J.P. Swaminathan (Brampton, Ontario) made seven stops in goal for his second shutout of the year. Freshman Mark Owens (Charleston, S.C.) had five saves for PC.
No rest for the weary as Tusculum (6-0, 2-0 SAC) hosts Montreat College Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Presbyterian (3-3, 0-2 SAC) entertains the University of Charleston Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
