TUSCULUM MEN’S SOCCER UPSETS NO. 17 WINGATE 2-0

 

                WINGATE, N.C. --- Gareth Williams recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Tusculum College men’s soccer team to a 2-0 upset win over No. 17 Wingate University Saturday night at the WU Soccer Complex in South Atlantic Conference action.

 

                Tusculum (4-5, 1-1 SAC) hands the Bulldogs (8-1, 0-1 SAC) their first loss of the season.

 

                Following a scoreless opening period, Bruno Conceicao knocked home his sixth goal of the year, which was assisted by Williams and Lucas Paulini in the 59th minute.  TC added an insurance goal at the 85:14 mark as Williams connected on his fourth scoring tally of the season on a pass by Anteneh Lemma.

 

                Tusculum keeper Lance Moore recorded his first career collegiate shutout as he went the distance, facing 18 shots while posting five saves.

 

                The Pioneers are back home for the first time in 23 days when they host No. 7 Lander University for a 7 p.m. match at Pioneer Field.  It will be the third nationally ranked opponent Tusculum has faced in its last four matches.
