PIONEERS, NEWBERRY BATTLE TO 2-2 TIE

NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Newberry College's Kyle Rudder scored with 2:26 left in the match to lift the Indians to a 2-2 tie with 10th-ranked Tusculum College Sunday afternoon at the Newberry Soccer Complex. (Box Score)

Paul Hopkins’ (Portsmouth, England) goal on a penalty kick at the 55:10 mark gave the Pioneers the lead (2-1), but TC was unable to hold the lead. The teams battled through 20 minutes of extra time with both sides having scoring opportunities but neither was able to cash in.

Tusculum gave Newberry the lead early on thanks to an own goal. The Indians carried the lead through the final 19-plus minutes of the first half and the opening eight minutes of the second half before senior Alexander Eddo (Nevis, West Indies) knotted the score at 1-1.

Sophomore J.P. Swaminathan (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) played the first 12:07 in goal for TC before giving way to senior Cameron Bailey (Winchester, Tenn.) who made two saves and allowed one goal. Brian Linn went the distance for Newberry and had 12 saves.
