Men’s Soccer Upsets No. 25 Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-0

Hickory, N.C. – The Tusculum College Men’s Soccer Team upended Lenoir-Rhyne College 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Bears Field.  The loss was the third straight for L-R, which has lost five of their last seven after starting the season 10-0.

 

After playing 45 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Pioneers came out after halftime and scored the first goal of the match at the 50:11 markBruno Conceicao received a chip across the goal from Telmo Dantes to make the score 1-0. Conceicao recorded his 15th goal and seventh game-winner of the season.

Tusculum scored what proved to be the icing on the cake with 20:21 remaining when Gareth Williams received a pass ahead from Lucas Paulini and shot it past the keeper into the left side of the goal.

 

Lance Moore picked up the win in goal for the Pioneers while junior Francisco Banuelos suffered the loss for the Bears despite picking up a season-high 12 saves.

Tusculum (9-6-2, 5-1-1 SAC) will face Anderson University on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Anderson, S.C. at 4:00 p.m.
