NO. 24 LINCOLN MEMORIAL DOWNS TUSCULUM 3-2

HARROGATE, Tenn. ---  No. 24 Lincoln Memorial scored two second-half goals to post a 3-2 victory over the Tusculum men’s soccer team on Wednesday.  With the victory, LMU improves to 13-3-0, while TC slips to 11-5-1. (Box Score)

The Railsplitters took the pitch firing from the outset, outshooting the Pioneers by a 10-5 margin in the first half.  The LMU defense further tightened the clamps in the second half, allowing TC just one shot, compared to 10 for the Railsplitters.

The clock had barely started when LMU made its way onto the scoreboard, as Frederico Moojen scored a goal from the right corner less than two minutes into the contest.  Leonardo de Barros recorded the assist.

The Pioneers would score two early goals of their own to carry a 2-1 advantage into intermission.  Gerald Watt (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) found Jay Harris (London, England) with a pass off a corner kick to pull TC even at 1-1 in the 10th minute of action.  Benyam Kefleyessus (Minneapolis, Minn.) notched the go-ahead goal in the 15th minute off a long breakaway pass from Dave Bailey (Bristol, England).

The second half was controlled by LMU, which would score two more goals to ultimately claim a 3-2 victory.  Moojen struck again in the 61st minute, firing a shot on a ball that rebounded off a direct kick to knot the score at 2-2.  Diogo Silvy hit Marcelo Galafassi with a pass that he chipped past TC keeper Jose Juarez (Paterson, N.J.) for the match-winning goal in the 64th minute.

Juarez went the distance for Tusculum, facing 12 shots on goal and posting eight saves.  The Pioneers also made one team stop in the contest.  LMU’s Brent Cole also played all 90 minutes and recorded one save.

Tusculum will remain idle until the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament on Tuesday, November 1.  Tournament sites and seeds will be announced by the SAC upon the conclusion of all conference regular-season matches.
