NESFIELD SCORES TWO, PIONEERS MOVE ON TO SEMIFINALS

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College senior Andre Nesfield (Arima, Trinidad) tallied two first-half goals as the third-seeded Pioneers advanced to the semifinals of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference men's soccer tournament with a 3-0 win over No. 6 seed Presbyterian College Wednesday evening at Pioneer Field. Tusculum (13-2-2), ranked 23rd in the NSCAA/adidas coaches' poll, will face the winner of second-seeded Catawba College and No. 7 Mars Hill College. Presbyterian ends its season at 9-9.

All three of TC's goals came in the first 27 minutes. Nesfield got his first just over two minutes in, putting home a cross from junior Jeremy Partin (Germantown, Ohio).

TC senior Paul Hopkins (Portsmouth, England) scored his 20th of the season in the 11th minute, flicking a through-ball from junior Justin Vanmatre (St. Louis, Mo.) just past the PC netminder.

Nesfield capped off the scoring at 26:11. He headed in a one-two pass from junior Jameson Riner (Knoxville, Tenn.) and senior Jonathan Gordon (Glasgow, Scotland).

Sophomore J.P. Swaminathan (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) made three stops for his fourth shutout on the season. PC freshman Mark Owens (Charleston, S.C.) went the first 15:22 for the Blue Hose, allowing two goals with one save. Senior Kevin Czar (Lilburn, Ga.) had eight saves and gave up one goal.
