TUSCULUM WOMEN'S SOCCER SIGNS FOUR MORE

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Four more student-athletes have indicated they will attend Tusculum College and play soccer for the Pioneers announced TC women's coach Mike Joy.  Joining the Pioneers for the 2007-08 campaign are Dagbjort Agnarsdottir, Amber Bradley, Chelcey Flenniken and Elisha Robertson.

               

                Agnarsdottir, a 5-5 midfielder from Hafnarfjordur, Iceland was selected the team most valuable player of her prep team where she was coached by Haukar Hawks.

 

                Bradley, a 5-2 outside midfielder from Kent, Wash., is currently attending Kentridge High School.  She also plays for the Dosveedanya Soccer Club and the Washington Premier FC.  Her Dosveedanya team won the 2004 State Championship and during her prep career, she was the recipient of the Golden Shoe Award.  She is also lettering in track and basketball at Kentridge HS.

 

                Flenniken earned All-District and All-Tournament honors at Gatlinburg Pittman High School.  The Sevierville, Tenn. native recorded 67 goals and 85 assists during her prep career.  The 5-5 midfielder was named the District Most Valuable Player and also competes in club soccer for the Sevier Storm.  Flenniken also letters in track and field at GPHS.

 

                Robertson, a 5-3 marking back from Riverview High School in Sarasota, Fla., was a two-time All-Area selection and was a member of the State All-Star team.  She was named team captain during the State All-Star game.  She also plays for the Sarasota Storm Club team.


                "With the addition of these four signees, we should be competitive next year," said Joy.  "After the loss of 11 seniors, I knew that this would be an important recruiting year.  I look forward to the challenge of coaching and developing this talented group of incoming freshmen and merging them with our small group of talented upperclassmen.  We have addressed our need areas, gained additional speed and we may have the ingredients to become at better attacking team."

 

                The Pioneers have now signed 10 newcomers for next year.  This quarter joins Megan Kurtz, Melanie Webb, Courtney Turner, Cassy Melnike, Jillian Cunha and Lisa Andriano on next year's roster.

 

Tusculum went 14-4-3 this past season, advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament for a second consecutive season and the third time in four years.  The Pioneers won the Southeast Regional and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in school history.  TC ended the season ranked eighth in the nation, the best in the program's history.

 

                Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of nine colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
