FIVE PIONEERS NAMED TO ALL-SAC WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM

                ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Five Tusculum College players have been named to the 2006 All-South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Team announced league officials Tuesday.  Whitney Wardrop was named the All-SAC First Team goal keeper, while Becky Carreiro, Kelly Barron, Theresa Christie and Ashley Moreira were selected to the Second Team.

 

                Wardrop, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada led the conference in three statistical categories including goals against average (0.49), shutouts per match (0.62) and save percentage (.908).  Wardrop, the 2005 SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, accounted for 10 shutouts this season to go along with 79 saves.

 

                Carreiro, a senior forward from Missassauga, Ontario, Canada, earns All-SAC recognition for a third straight year.  Carreiro is Tusculum's leading scorer with nine goals and 23 points.  She has also posted five assists and leads the league with five match-winning goals.

 

                Barron finished second on the team in scoring with seven goals and 17 points.  The Cincinnati, Ohio sophomore forward led the team in shots (74), while also dishing out three assists.

 

                Christie, a senior forward from Centerville, Ohio garners her first All-SAC accolade in her collegiate career.  After missing the 2005 campaign, Christie accounted for a goal and three assists for her five points.  She also recorded a match-winning goal in her 16 starts.

 

                Earning All-Conference recognition for a second straight year is senior defender Ashley Moreira.  The London, Ontario, Canada product led the team with seven assists.  She is currently tied for the all-time lead in career assists with 31 helpers.  Moreira was an All-Region selection in 2005 and anchors the Tusculum defense that leads the league in shutouts per match (0.69) and team goals against average (0.49).

 

                Carson-Newman led the league with seven honorees, while Tusculum was second with five.  Catawba and Newberry had four selections each, while Presbyterian had three players recognized.  Wingate and Newberry had two each, while Lenoir-Rhyne had one honoree.

 

                Tusculum finished second in the league standings and is currently ranked No. 12 in the latest NSCAA/adidas® Division II Poll.

 

                The All-South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Teams are selected by a vote of the league's head coaches.
