TUSCULUM BEATS AASU 1-0, ADVANCES IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- Senior Ashley Moreria knocked home a free kick in the 25th minute as second-seeded Tusculum College defeated No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State University 1-0 in the opening match of the NCAA Division II Southeast Women’s Soccer Regional Friday afternoon at McCown Field.

The Pioneers (13-2-3), ranked No. 19 in NCAA II, advances to Sunday’s regional final against host Carson-Newman College for a 2 p.m. contest.  Armstrong Atlantic ends its season at 18-4-1.

This marks the second time Tusculum has defeated AASU this season and by the identical 1-0 result.

Moreira’s goal, her second of the year, came on a free kick from just outside the box on the left side and arched just over the outstretched hands of AASU keeper Tarra Kohler in the corner of the far post for the only tally of the contest.

Tusculum keeper Whitney Wardrop recorded her 11th shutout of the season as she accounted for six saves in the victory.  Kohler tallied two saves in the loss.
