TUSCULUM WOMEN'S SOCCER EARNS TOP SEED FOR NCAA SOUTHEAST
REGIONAL
INDIANAPOLIS --- For a
third consecutive year and the fourth time in five seasons, the Tusculum College women's soccer team has punched
its ticket for the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The 48-team field was announced
on Monday and the Pioneers will be the top-seed in the Southeast Regional. The first and second rounds of each regional
will be hosted at campus sites. The
Southeast Regional will be held on the campus of Armstrong
Atlantic State
University in Savannah,
Ga. and in Columbus,
Ga. on the campus of Columbus State
University.
As the top seed, Tusculum earns a bye and advances to Sunday's second round
match, which will be played at 1 p.m. in Savannah. Tusculum
will face the winner between No. 4 seed Armstrong Atlantic and No. 5 Lincoln
Memorial University. The AASU/LMU match
will be played Friday in Savannah.
In the other half of the
Regional, Carson-Newman
College earned the No. 2
seed and a bye. No. 3 Columbus State
will host No. 6 Queens University of Charlotte on Friday with the winner of
that match playing Carson-Newman in Sunday's second round in Columbus.
Tusculum (14-6) is the defending regional
champion as the Pioneers advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2006. The Pioneers have won five of their last six
matches.
The third round and national
quarterfinals will be held Nov. 16 and 18 at a site to be determined. The national semifinals and final are slated
for Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 at Orange Park
Ala.
