GAFFNEY, S.C. --- Tusculum College's
Ashley Moreira and Whitney Wardrop have been named to the
2006 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Women's Soccer First
Team announced College officials Tuesday.
Moreira and Waldrop now advance
to the Daktronics All-America ballot, which will be announced later.
The senior duo anchored one of
the best defenses in the country as the Pioneers won the NCAA II Southeast Region
Championship and advanced to the national quarterfinals for the first time in
school history. Tusculum (14-3-3) allowed just 14 goals all
year, while posting a 0.68 goals against average.
Moreira, a 5-8
defender from London, Ontario, Canada,
earns her second All-Region accolade in as many seasons. She was named to the NSCAA/adidas®
All-Southeast Region First Team in 2005.
The two-time All-South Atlantic Conference selection led the Pioneers
with seven assists to go along with a pair of goals, including the match-winner
in Tusculum's 1-0 win over Armstrong Atlantic
State University
in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Moreira posted 31 career assists, tied for the most in school history. She was also named to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District IV Third Team.
Wardrop, a 5-11 native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, enjoyed one of the finest seasons ever
by a Tusculum
goalkeeper. Wardrop recorded a 0.69 GAA
and accounted for 12 shutouts as she was named to the All-SAC First Team. The 2005 SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player
was stellar in goal during the postseason as she recorded consecutive 1-0
shutouts in wins over Armstrong Atlantic and No. 4 Carson-Newman to reach the
NCAA Elite Eight. In her two seasons at Tusculum, Wardrop boasts
a 0.87 GAA, which is the second lowest in school history.
The Daktronics NCAA Division II
All-Southeast Region team is selected by a vote of the region's sports
information directors.
