TUSCULUM WOMEN'S SOCCER LISTED EIGHTH IN FINAL

NSCAA/NCAA DIVISION II NATIONAL RANKINGS

 

                MISSION, Kan. --- Following one of its most successful postseason runs in school history, the Tusculum College women's soccer had ended the year ranked eighth in the nation according to the final 2006 NSCAA/adidas® Division II Rankings announced College officials Wednesday.         

 

Tusculum's No. 8 national ranking is the program's best listing to end a season in school history.  The Pioneers posted a 14-3-3 record, won the NCAA II Southeast Region Championship and advanced to the national quarterfinals for the first time in the 17-year history of the program.

 

                The Pioneers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season and third time in the last four years.  Tusculum posted consecutive 1-0 decisions over Armstrong Atlantic State and Carson-Newman in the Southeast Region Tournament, before falling to Tampa in NCAA Elite Eight.

 

                Of the teams listed in the final rankings, the Pioneers posted a 3-1 record, including No. 4 Tampa (0-1), No. 10 Carson-Newman (2-0) and No. 20 Columbus State.

 

Tusculum boasted one of the top defenses in the country as the Pioneers were fifth in Division II in save percentage (.884) and eighth in shutout percentage (0.65).  Tusculum's team goals against average (0.68), was also 23rd in the country.
