BELLARMINE,
GLENVILLE STATE SHINE IN DAY ONE OF TUSCULUM/COMFORT INN CLASSIC
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Bellarmine and
Glenville State each won a pair of games in day one action of the 2008 Tusculum
College/Comfort Inn Classic, held this weekend at Red Edmonds Field.
Play continues on Saturday with
five games.
Game 1: Bellarmine
9, Tusculum 6
Bellarmine
opened the day with a 9-6 win over the host Pioneers as the Knights tallied 13
hits, including three hits each by Katie
Wilsiefer and Casey Willard. Willard also
recorded the win in the circle as she posted nine strikeouts.
Tusculum got a 2-for-3 effort by
Holli Cadenhead,
including a triple, while Jennifer Turley recorded two runs batted in. Lynnsey Jett also
accounted for two runs and drew three walks in the loss.
Game 2: Bellarmine
6, Seton Hill 3
Anna Mehr went 3-for-4 with three RBI on
her birthday as the Knights posted a 6-3 victory over Seton Hill. BU scored four runs in the first inning as
starter Sharon Brill went the
distance as she scattered eight hits in the victory.
The Griffins were paced by Louanne Wiegand’s
3-for-4 effort in the loss.
Game 3: Seton Hill 3, Montreat 2
Seton Hill jumped out to a 2-0
lead, but had to hold off a rally as the Griffins defeated Montreat
3-2. SHU made its four hits count,
including doubles by Lyndsey Nusser and Christina Vanderpool. Caitlyn
Kamalich picked up the victory, while Nusser pitched the final inning to record the save.
Game 4: Glenville State 4,
Tusculum 2
In a battle of the Pioneers,
Glenville State rallied from a 2-0 deficit, thanks to a two-run sixth inning,
as GSC defeated Tusculum 4-2. Meagan James and Stacy Mack each recorded solo home runs, while Candice White
tallied a pair of hits.
Mandy Parkulo went the distance for the
win as she scattered five hits. Taylor MacDonald, Ashley Basilicato, Cadenhead,
Turley and Jett each posted hits in the loss.
Game 5: Glenville State 2, Montreat 1
Glenville State scored two late
runs and held off a seventh-inning bases loaded jam in defeating Montreat 2-1.
The Pioneers made the most of
their three hits, including two by Jessica
Gilchrist, the last coming in the sixth inning, driving in the game-winning
run.
Erin Cross, Jamie Poling
and Haven Payne each had two hits in
the loss for Montreat.
