23 GC&SU SWEEPS TUSCULUM SOFTBALL
GREENEVILLE,
Tenn. --- The
No. 23 Georgia College & State University softball team swept Sunday’s
doubleheader at Tusculum College. The
Bobcats (6-2) won the opener 8-1 and captured the second game 11-3 in five
innings. Tonya Medders led GC&SU going 4-for-8
on the day with three RBI.

GC&SU blew open a close game
with six runs in the fourth inning as the Bobcats prevailed 8-1 in the first
game. GC&SU muscled out 10 hits,
while pitcher Mandy Chandler (3-2)
limited Tusculum to two hits, while striking out 13.
Haley Holloway went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a solo home
run to center field. Medders
and Brianna Hope also tallied two
hits each in the win for the Bobcats.
Tusculum plated its run in the
seventh when Ashley Basilicato
singled and later scored on an error.

In the second game, the Bobcats
rallied from a 3-0 deficit, scoring five runs each in the third and fifth
innings en route to an 11-3 win.
Five GC&SU players accounted
for two hits each, including Medders and Shelbie Lindsey, who each homered in the game.
Tusculum jumped out early with
two runs in the first inning thanks to Basilicato’s
two-run homer. TC added another tally in
the second as Lynssey Jett scored on Basilicato’s
single as the Pioneers led 5-0.
In the third, the Bobcats roared
back with five runs, with the big hit coming on Lindsey’s two-run homer. GC&SU tallied four hits in the inning and
capitalized on a Tusculum error.
The Bobcats added another run in
the fourth and five more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Medders
(1-0) relieved GC&SU starter Janna
Shiver in the first to pitch the remaining 4.2 innings for her first win of
the season.
Basilicato
finished the game going 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Kristina Neal and Jett finished with a hit each.
Tusculum (3-7) returns to action
Tuesday when the Pioneers travel to Erskine College for a doubleheader.
