TUSCULUM SOFTBALL SPLITS PAIR AT ERSKINE

DUE WEST, S.C. --- The Tusculum College
softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Erskine College
Tuesday afternoon. Tusculum (4-8) won the opener 5-4 in eight innings,
while the Flying Fleet rebounded in the second game, 12-3 in six innings.
In game one, Tusculum
took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning with the key hit coming on Racheal Wilburn’s double. The Fleet would tie
the game in the fifth with a single from Jocelyn
Smith and a double from Katee Knapp. Tusculum would score two
runs in the eighth and would hold Erskine to just one run in the bottom of the
eighth to take the victory.
Tusculum was
led at the plate by Wilburn who was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI, while Lynnsey Jett was 1-for-2 with three RBI. Holli Cadenhead picked up the win allowing one run in three innings of work.
The Fleet was led at the plate by Knapp who was 3-of-4 with a double and a RBI,
while Lauren Gunter was 2-for-2 and
Jocelyn Smith was 2-for-4 with a double. Gunter took the loss allowing five
runs in eight innings of work and struck out five.
Courtney Davis led the Fleet in game
two, going 3-4 with a double, two home runs and four runs batted in, while
Knapp was 1-4 with a three run home run. Gunter picked up the win pitching four
innings of relief and not allowing a run.
Wilburn once again led Tusculum,
going 3-3 with a double while Taylor
MacDonald was 2-4 with two doubles and a RBI. Ashley Whitehead picked up the loss allowing six unearned runs in
two innings of work.
Tusculum returns to action this weekend
at the Bearcat Classic in Greenwood,
S.C.
