TUSCULUM SOFTBALL WINS FIFTH IN A ROW, PIONEERS DOWN DRAGONS 8-2

 

                MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- Brie Griffin went 2-for-3 including her fourth home run of the season as Tusculum College defeated SUNY-Oneonta 8-2 Wednesday morning in the Pioneers' final game of the 2007 Snow Bird Classic.  Tusculum completed the week a perfect 5-0 record in Myrtle Beach.

 

                Chrissy Wilkison posted a 2-for-4 outing and recorded her sixth home run of the season with her twp-run blast in the sixth inning.

 

                Tusculum rookie Jessica Bales made her collegiate pitching debut as she went the distance.  Bales allowed four hits, two unearned runs, walked none and struck out four in the victory.

 

                Mackenzie Loy added two hits, while Wilkison, Racheal Wilburn and Lynnsey Jett each accounted for a double in the win.

 

                SUNY-Oneonta was led by Allison Bandos as she went 3-for-3 and scored a run.

 

                Tusculum plated two runs in the bottom of the first when Wilkison doubled and scored on Griffin's two-run homer to center field.  TC made it a 5-0 game with three runs in the third inning.  Anna Johnson scored on Wilburn's fielder's choice, while Jett completed the frame with her two-out, two-run double.

 

                The Dragons got on the board in the fourth inning when Shannon Egan reached on a two-base error and later scored on Meghan Martin's ground out.  Tusculum got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Johnson tripled and scored on a Griffin single.

 

                The Pioneers return home this Saturday when they host Brevard College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Red Edmonds Field.
