WILKISON SHINES, TUSCULUM SOFTBALL SWEEPS BREVARD

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Chrissy Wilkison went 5-for-6 with six runs batted in as the Tusculum College softball team swept a doubleheader over visiting Brevard College Saturday afternoon at Red Edmonds Field. 

 

Tusculum rallied from a four-run deficit with eight runs in the fourth inning as the Pioneers prevailed 9-4.  In the night-cap, TC muscled out a dozen hits and plated five runs to start the game to win 8-3 to complete the sweep.

 

Tusculum improves 15-5 overall, including its current seven-game winning streak.  The Lady Tornados fall to 1-15 on the year.

 

Game 1: Tusculum 9, Brevard 4

 

                Wilkison went 3-for-3, including her three-run double in the fourth inning as Tusculum bounced back to win 9-4.  Wilkison finished the game with four RBI, while Judith Saavedra added a pair of hits in the win.

 

                Tusculum sent 13 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, answering the bell on Brevard's four-runs in the top of the frame.  BC scored four runs on five hits including two-run doubles by Katie Thornburg and Lindsay Morgan.

 

                In the Tusculum half of the fourth inning, TC capitalized on three errors and tallied five hits as TC moved ahead 8-4.  The Pioneers added another run in the fifth inning as Anna Johnson led off with a double and scored on Wilkison's base hit up the middle.

 

                Holli Cadenhead (5-2) posted a complete game effort to up her record to 5-2.  Cadenhead allowed five hits, four runs, walked none and struck out seven.  BC's Rachel Howard suffered the loss as she gave up eight unearned runs, while walking four and struck out one.

 

Game 2: Tusculum 8, Brevard 3

 

                Tusculum batted around in the first inning, including two-run singles by Wilkison and Judith Saavedra as Tusculum completed the sweep with an 8-3 win.

 

                Jenica Fernandez, Ashley Basilicato, Saavedra and Wilkison all finished with multi-hit games.  Brevard's Amber Klein went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Beth Brooker went 2-for-4 for the Lady Tornados.

 

                Kassie Killion scattered nine hits, allowed three runs, two earned and posted a struck out as she goes to 3-0 on the year.  Brie Griffin went 1-for-2, including her fifth home run of the season, a two-run blast in the sixth inning.

 

                Tusculum returns to action Monday when the Pioneers travel to Milligan College for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
