TUSCULUM'S BRIE GRIFFIN SETS SCHOOL HOME RUN AND RBI RECORD,

PIONEERS SPLIT PAIR AT MILLIGAN

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College's Brie Griffin hit a school record three home runs in the opener as the Pioneer softball split a doubleheader at Milligan College Monday afternoon.  Tusculum won the opener 12-4 in five innings, but the Lady Buffs rebounded to post a 7-3 decision in the night-cap.  Tusculum moves its record to 16-6 and has its eight-game winning streak snapped.

Griffin went 3-for-4 with a school record eight runs batted in.  Griffin also ties the South Atlantic Conference single-game records for both home runs (3) and RBI (8).

Griffin got the Pioneers on the board in the first inning with her two-run blast.  She capped a five-run second inning for Tusculum with a three-run shot with Chrissy Wilkison and Anna Johnson aboard.  She posted another three-run homer in the fourth inning to put the Pioneers up by a 10-3 score.

Freshman Jessica Bales tossed a five-inning complete game in the opener to post the victory.  Bales scattered six hits and struck out five to improve her record to 2-0.  On just 77 pitches, Bales induced seven ground outs.

In the second game, Jennifer Wise pitched a complete game to help lead

Milligan to the win.  Wise (3-4) gave up two runs in the fifth inning and another in the seventh while she scattered seven hits.

The Lady Buffs put a run on the scoreboard in the first inning when Leah Fritts came around to score. Wise helped herself out in the second inning with a RBI double to drive in Melanie Strickler to give Milligan a 2-0 lead.

A bases loaded walk to Fritts in the fourth inning pushed Strickler across home and Stewart drove in Jessica Russell and pinch-runner Hannah Cunningham with her single.

Strickler's two-run single in the fifth inning made the score 7-2 and Wise pitched a perfect sixth inning and allowed one run in the seventh to finish off the Milligan win.

Raeanne Slate suffered the loss for Tusculum as she went 4.1 innings.

Tincher finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and double while Strickler scored two runs and drove in two.

Tusculum’s Judith Saavedra was 2-for-2 with a triple, a walk and run scored in the fifth

inning.

Tusculum returns home on Wednesday when the Pioneers host King College for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Red Edmonds Field.
