TUSCULUM TAKES TWO OF THREE AT S.C. FASTPITCH CLASSIC

 

                SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Megan DuBois posted a pair of complete game victories as the Tusculum College softball team won two of three games Saturday at the 2007 South Carolina Fastpitch Classic, held at the 257 Softball Complex.

 

                Tusculum opened the day with a 10-1 victory over UNC Pembroke, but was defeated by Armstrong Atlantic State University 3-1 in the next game.  The Pioneers (19-9) rebounded with an 11-5 victory against West Virginia State College.

 

                In the first game of the day, DuBois surrendered an unearned run and struck out five as Tusculum defeated UNC Pembroke 10-1 in five innings.  Anna Johnson provided the big hit of the day with her grand slam against the Lady Braves.  Johnson finished 2-for-4 with five RBI, while also posting a double.  Jess Greer went 3-for-3 and scored three times, while Judith Saavedra posted a 2-for-4 effort with a RBI and a stolen base.

 

                In the 3-1 loss to AASU, Brie Griffin went 2-for-3 and Ashley Basilicato scored Tusculum's only run when she crossed the plate on Saavedra's sacrifice fly.

 

                Tusculum got a three-run homer by Chrissy Wilkison, her seventh of the season, as the Pioneers prevailed 11-5 against West Virginia State.  DuBois (8-4) posted her second win of the day and eighth of the year.  DuBois scattered seven hits and struck out three in the win.

 

Wilkison went 4-for-5 with six RBI, while Greer posted her second 3-for-3 effort of the day, including two doubles and scored two runs. 

 

                Tusculum will close out play in the Classic on Sunday with a rematch against UNC Pembroke, beginning at noon.
