TUSCULUM SOFTBALL RALLIES TO BEAT UNCP 8-4

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Anna Johnson went 3-for-3 with four RBI as Tusculum College defeated UNC Pembroke 8-4 Sunday afternoon at the 295 Sports Complex in the final game of the South Carolina Fastpitch Classic. Tusculum (20-9) has won three of its last four games and has already surpassed last season’s victory total (18).

Tusculum rallied from a 3-0 deficit with five runs in the second inning, including a solo home run by Makenzie Loy.

Tusculum finished with 10 hits, including two hits each by Brie Griffin, Holli Cadenhead and Loy.

Jessica Bales improved her record to 4-1 on the season as she pitched five innings.

UNCP accounted for 13 hits, including multi-hit games by Jelena Shaw, Brittany Berrier, Wendi Cochran, Mara Thornton, Ashton Locklear and Kelly Niccum.

Tusculum opens South Atlantic Conference play on Thursday with a doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne College.
