SOFTBALL
SPLITS WITH UVA WISE
GREENEVILLE,
Tenn. – The Tusculum College softball team split with UVA
Wise Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 victory in the first game and a 3-0 loss in
the second. The Pioneers are 6-10 while UVA Wise is 1-1.
Game One:
TC scored their first run in the first inning as Anna Johnson started the team off with a base hit followed by an Ashley Basilicato triple which brought
Johnson in. The Pioneers continued to score in the fifth inning after Kristina Neal was walked and brought
home with a double from Jennifer Turley
taking the 2-0 lead. Turley reached third on a pass ball and advanced home
after a stolen base by Taylor MacDonald.
McDonald was brought home by a fielder’s choice to Johnson for the 4-0 lead
after the inning.
UVA Wise retaliated in the sixth inning with two
runs. Shelly Newton started the
Cavaliers off with a double and was brought home after an error and advancing
on the throw. Brittany Lawson
reached first on an error and came home on a sacrifice fly to close in on the
Pioneers, 4-2.
Holli Cadenhead
got the win and is 2-3 while Megan DuBois recorded her first save. Cavalier pitcher Lauren Snead got the loss and is 1-0.
Game Two:
In the second game, Mary Wilson was walked and brought in on an error in the second
inning for the quick 1-0 lead. UVA Wise extended their lead to 2-0 after a
homerun by Lawson in the fourth. The Cavaliers grabbed the 3-0 win after a base
hit by Sarah Frazier brought in Hannah Ellis who reached first on an error, stole second and reached third
on a fielder’s choice.
Amanda
Wheeler-Sims got the win and is 1-0 while Ashley Whitehead recorded the loss and
is 2-5.
The Pioneers will host Alderson-Broaddus Tuesday at
1 p.m.
