TUSCULUM, LIMESTONE SPLIT SOFTBALL PAIR

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College's Jess Greer singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener as the Pioneers split a non-conference doubleheader against visiting Limestone College Sunday afternoon at Red Edmonds Field.

The Pioneers won the opener 1-0, while the Saints won the night-cap 8-2.  The second game was delayed 90 minutes after four innings due to rain.

Game 1: Tusculum 1, Limestone 0

Tusculum pitcher Megan DuBois tossed a two-hit shutout as the Pioneers won in their final at-bat 1-0.  DuBois surrendered a pair of singles and had only one runner advance into scoring position as she posts her fourth shutout of the year.

Ashley Basilicato finished the game going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and scored the winning run on Greer's base hit.  Basilicato led off the seventh with a double, her ninth of the year.  She later moved to third on Holli Cadenhead's bunt and scored on Greer's single to left field.

Limestone starter Candice Evans pitched well as she went 6 1/3 innings, allowed seven hits, a run and struck out four.

Game 2: Limestone 8, Tusculum 2

Limestone pounded out 13 hits as the Saints bounced back from game one with an 8-2 win over the Pioneers.  Evans went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI for Limestone, while Christina Woolgar added three hits and scored twice in the win.

LC starter Jennifer Casement (9-8) went the distance as she allowed seven hits, two runs, one earned and struck out four.  Tusculum freshman Jessica Bales suffered the loss to fall to 4-3.

Limestone scored a run in the first on Evans' RBI double.  TC tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Chrissy Wilkison recorded the first of two doubles in the game and later scored on a throwing error.

The Saints plated three runs in the third inning, including Laura Robertson's two run double to make the score 4-1.  After the rain delay, Limestone erupted for four more runs in the sixth, including a two-run double by Evans to close out the game.

Wilkison and Brie Griffin each finished with two hits in the game, including Griffin's fourth double of the season.

Tusculum returns to action on Tuesday when the Pioneers travel to Mars Hill College for a South Atlantic Conference showdown with the Lions.  Limestone will host Georgia College & State University on Monday.
