TUSCULUM SPLITS SOFTBALL PAIR WITH PANTHERS

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Senior Chrissy Wilkison broke a scoreless tie with her RBI double in the fifth inning of game two as the Tusculum College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday night at Red Edmonds Field.

The Panthers posted a 15-hit barrage in the opener en route to an 8-3 win.  The Pioneers (25-18) got a stellar pitching performance from Megan DuBois in the night-cap as she tossed a seven-hit shutout in Tusculum's 3-0 victory.

Kentucky Wesleyan (17-17) recorded three-hit performances from Kaley Wethington, Mariel Hamer and Lindsay Davis in the first game, while starting pitcher Haleigh Ashworth evened her record at 7-7 as she went the distance for the Panthers.

Tusculum was led offensively by Anna Johnson, who went 3-for-4, including her fifth triple of the season.

KWC plated three runs in the first inning as the Panthers sent eight batters to the plate, including RBI singles by Davis and Hamer.  TC answered with a pair of scoring tallies in the bottom of the frame, including Johnson's tripled down the right field line.  KWC added two runs in the second thanks to a triple by Wethington and a RBI single off the bat of Katy Lee.

In the second game, DuBois recorded her 10th win of the season with Tusculum's 3-0 shutout of Kentucky Wesleyan.

DuBois (10-6) scattered seven hits and struck out four.  KWC starter Jamie Ogles went the distance for the visitors to fall to 4-9.

Judith Saavedra and Ashley Basilicato each recorded two hits each for the Pioneers, while Ashworth and Meredith McConnell added two hits each for the Panthers.

Tusculum mounted a two-out rally in the fifth inning as Johnson singled and scored on Wikison's double to the right field gap to put the Pioneers up 1-0.  TC added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning, as Makenzie Loy led off with a triple and scored on Basilicato's ensuing single up the middle.

Saavedra went 4-for-8 for the Pioneers on the day, while Johnson also finished with a four-hit evening for Tusculum.

Kentucky Wesleyan will be at Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday, while Tusculum will face LMU on Monday at Red Edmonds Field beginning at 5 p.m.
