PIONEERS LISTED IN NCAA SOFTBALL STATISTICS

 

                INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College softball team is ranked ninth in the nation in double plays turned according to this week's NCAA Division II statistics announced College officials Wednesday.

 

                The Pioneers (26-19, 3-7 in South Atlantic Conference) have already broken the school single-season record with 22 double plays this year, averaging 0.49 twin-killings per game.  TC needs two more double plays to tie the conference season record of 24 double plays, set by Newberry College in 1999.

 

                Tusculum is listed in the top 50 nationally in two other categories including triples per game (0.38) and doubles per game (1.84).

 

                The Tusculum trio of Holli Cadenhead (Van Vleck, Texas), Anna Johnson (Jonesborough, Tenn.) and Makenzie Loy (Knoxville, Tenn.) are amongst the national leaders in triples.  Cadenhead is averaging 0.13 triples per game, which is 27th in the nation.  Johnson is 29th with her 0.12 average, while Loy is 47th at 0.09.

 

                Senior Chrissy Wilkison (Lake Forest, Calif.) is 41st in the country in runs batted in per game, averaging 1.07 per game.

 

                Tusculum returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Thursday when it hosts Wingate University for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. from Red Edmonds Field.
