TUSCULUM'S FRED GILLUM TO SPEAK AT GACA CLINIC

Coach Fred Gillum                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College softball coach Fred Gillum will be one of the featured speakers at the 2007 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Softball Clinic, held June 25-26 at the Northwest Marriott in Marietta, Ga.

Gillum, who has just completed his first season at Tusculum, will be speaking to high school softball coaches in the State of Georgia about practice organization.  Joining Coach Gillum are Georgia Tech head coach Sharon Perkins, Mercer head coach Mike Raynor and Tennessee Tech skipper Tory Acheson.

Gillum took over the TC program in December 2006 and orchestrated one of the best turnarounds in the program's history.  He inherited a program that went 18-32-1 a year before and posted an 11-win improvement going 29-25 in 2007.  The 29 victories equal the most wins in a season since Tusculum reclassified to the NCAA Division II level.

Gillum has over nine years of collegiate head coaching experience and has recorded 145 career wins, including 73 victories at Mars Hill College, making him the winningest coach in that program’s history. In 2005, the Lions recorded 25 wins, establishing a new single-season record at MHC.  He has also served as head coach at Sue Bennett College and Kentucky Wesleyan College and an assistant coach at Limestone College and Stephen F. Austin University.

During the summer months, he works a number of softball camps and has served as an instructor.  He is the co-director of the Tusculum Skills and Drills Camp, which will be held July 16-18 at Red Edmonds Field on the Greeneville campus.
