NO. 14 PATRIOTS OUTLAST NO. 39 TUSCULUM 6-3 IN MEN'S TENNIS

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The No. 14 Francis Marion men's tennis team held off a determined Tusculum College squad as the Patriots defeated the host Pioneers 6-3 Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

 

                FMU (3-1) captured two of the three doubles points, including an 8-6 pro set win at the No. 2 flight as Dananjaya Mayadunne and Franklyn Emmanuel edged TC's Leo Guaycurus and Henrique Rodrigues.  FMU's No. 1 doubles duo of David Budler and Chatwinder Singh won 8-2 over Sergio Espinosa and Carlos Garcia.

 

                Tusculum (3-1) captured a doubles point at the No. 3 flight as Julien Jacob and Nicolas Bigler won 8-3 over James Machlachlan and Matthew Keth.

 

                Budler, Singh and Emmanuel won the top three singles points for the Patriots, while Tusculum's Hunter Beal won at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-0 over FMU's Jordan Gandy.

 

                Garcia rallied from a set down to defeat Mayadunne 5-7, 6-4, (10-2), while Keth outlasted Guaycurus 6-7, 6-3, (10-7) in a No. 5 singles marathon.

 

                Tusculum returns to action on Thursday at Lander for a 3 p.m. match in Greenwood, S.C.
