LMU MEN RALLY TO 5-4 WIN OVER TUSCULUM

 

            HARROGATE, Tenn. --- The Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team rallied from a 3-0 deficit in doubles to win five of the six singles matches to edge visiting Tusculum College 5-4 Sunday afternoon.  The Railsplitters improve to 2-0 on the season, while the No. 35 Pioneers (2-1) suffer their first loss of the season.

 

            Tusculum captured all three doubles points including the No. 1 pair of Carlos Garcia and Sergio Espinosa, who defeated Lukas Burkon and Jindra Chaloupka 8-5 in pro sets.  At No. 2 doubles, Pedro Galavis and Julien Jacob defeated LMU's Peter Kurhajec and Guilherme Alves 8-4, while Hunter Beal and Nic Bernard bested Dima Malinsky and Thomas Kurhajec 8-4 at the No. 3 flight.

 

            In singles play, LMU tied the match with three singles wins at the top three flights.  Beal captured Tusculum's lone point in singles at the No. 5 flight, as he defeated Kurhajec 7-5, 7-6, winning the tie break in the final set 8-6.

 

            The Pioneers are back in action on Friday when they host Belmont Abbey College for a 3 p.m. match at the Roger M. Nichols Tennis Complex.
