NO. 35 TUSCULUM BLANKS BELMONT ABBEY 9-0 IN MEN'S TENNIS

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The No. 35 Tusculum College men's tennis team posted its third shutout of the season as the Pioneers defeated visiting Belmont Abbey College 9-0 Friday afternoon at the Roger M. Nichols Tennis Complex.  It proved to be a happy birthday for Tusculum sophomore Carlos Garcia as he accounted for a pair of points in the Pioneer win.

 

                The Pioneers improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 1-8 on the year.

 

                Garcia and No. 1 doubles partner Sergio Espinosa defeated the BAC pair of Aaron Miller and Jimmie Whitman 8-3 in pro sets.

 

                Garcia also posted a straight set victory (6-0, 6-1) over Adam Gault at No. 3 singles, while Espinosa defeated Whitman at No. 2 singles 6-2, 7-6 (6-0).

 

                TC also got singles wins from Pedro Galavis, Julien Jacob and Hunter Beal.  Galavis and Jacob also teamed up to defeat Enrique Gonzalez and Gault 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

 

                Tusculum returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Limestone College for a 2 p.m. match.
