JACOB WINS LATE, PIONEERS DOWN NO. 32 USC AIKEN 5-4

 

AIKEN, S.C. --- No. 35 Tusculum College (4-2) captured a close 5-4 victory over 32nd-ranked USC Aiken (7-4), Sunday afternoon. With the singles matches drawing at an even 3-3, the win for Tusculum came with two doubles victories at the number two and three slots. The loss gives the Pacers their first non-conference defeat, as they fall to the reigning South Atlantic Conference Champions.

 

Julien Jacob provided the deciding point at No. 5 singles as he defeated Christopher Kaetz 6-4, 6-4.

In No. 3 and No. 4 singles, Pierre Negri and Edward Horne defeated their opponents (Carlos Garcia and Leonardo Guaycuros) 7-6, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-1 respectively, to close up the edge 4-3, going into the last two singles matches.

At No. 3 doubles, Tusculum's Pedro Galavis and Jacob defeated Kaetz and Wyatt Boylston 8-6, for what turned out to be the key win for the Pioneers.
