TUSCULUM MEN'S TENNIS EDGES BOBCATS 5-4

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Sergio Espinosa recorded a critical point at No. 3 singles as the No. 37 Tusculum College men's tennis team defeated Lees-McRae 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.  The Pioneers improve to 6-4 on the season.

 

                Espinosa claimed the winning point as he defeated Ricardo Velazquez 6-4, 6-1 to post the fifth and deciding point.

 

                Tusculum jumped out to a 3-0 advantage sweeping doubles including a thrilling 9-8 win by the No. 1 pair of Carlos Garcia and Espinosa over LMC's Nathan Spunda and Alex Lord-Andrade.  Garcia and Espinosa claimed the tie-breaker 7-5.

 

                Spunda, the 49th-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II, posted a straight set win over Tusculum's Antonio Oliver 6-0, 6-0.

 

                The Pioneers return to action on Sunday as they play at Milligan College at 2 p.m.
