LIMESTONE DEFEATS TUSCULUM MEN IN RAIN-SHORTENED MATCH, WOMEN’S MATCH RAINED OUT

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- In a clash of nationally ranked men’s tennis teams, No. 36 Limestone College defeated No. 39 Tusculum College 5-1 in a rain-shortened match.  The women’s match was tied at 2-2 when play was halted and won’t be rescheduled.

 

                The Saints (8-7) swept all three doubles matches in the men’s contest, including a key point at the No. 1 flight as Peter Elsborg and Christian Munn outlasted the TC duo of Sergio Espinosa and Carlos Garcia, 9-7 in pro sets.

 

                Trailing 3-0, Tusculum (6-2) got its lone point from Espinosa at No. 1 singles as he defeated Munn 6-2, 4-6, (10-7).  Philippe Hogan and Elsborg decided the match with straight set singles wins.  Hogan defeated Nicolas Bigler 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Elsborg defeated Henrique Rodrigues 6-2, 6-1.

 

                Tusculum hosts Carson-Newman College for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader at the Nichols Tennis Complex beginning at 3 p.m.  It will be the SAC opener for the men’s team, while it will be the TC women’s second league encounter.
