PIONEERS DEFEAT WINGATE MEN’S TENNIS 8-1

 

                WINGATE, N.C. --- The 39th-ranked Tusculum College men’s tennis won its third straight match as the Pioneers defeated Wingate University 8-1 Sunday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action.

 

                Tusculum (9-2, 3-0 SAC) swept all three doubles matches, including an 8-3 pro set win at No. 3 doubles by Hunter Beal and Nicolas Bigler over the Wingate duo of Brandon Thornton and Luis Ortiz.

 

                Sergio Espinosa, Carlos Garcia, Henrique Rodrigues, Leo Guaycurus and Beal each posted singles victories.  Wingate’s lone point came at No. 2 singles as Hendrik Ternieden defeated Bigler 6-1, 6-3.

 

                Tusculum will be at Mars Hill College on Wednesday for a SAC match.
