Garcia (
Antonio Oliver (Madrid, Spain) and Leo Guaycurus (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) defeated Jose Valarezo (Ecuador) and Felipe Fidalgo (Gastonia, N.C.) 8-3 at the No. 2 slot, while Pedro Galavis (Caracas, Venezuela) and Julien Jacob (Vancouver, British Columbia) held off Brandon Thornton (Richmond, Va.) and Mark Stern (Gainesville, Fla.) for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Jacob did not surrender a single set en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fidalgo. Both Galavis and Oliver were 6-1, 6-4 winners for the Pioneers, with Galavis downing Kanekar at the No. 1 slot and Oliver earning victory over Voelkel at the No. 3 position.
Garcia surrendered just one set to Valarezo, taking a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Espinosa saw his No. 2 match against Thornton retired with the score 6-3, 4-1, and Nic Janssen (Montreal, Quebec) picked up a win via forfeit in the No. 6 position.
