TUSCULUM EDGES NEWBERRY 5-4

NEWBERRY, S.C.The No. 37 Tusculum men’s tennis team escaped with come-from-behind victory over home-standing Newberry, winning 5-4 to remain undefeated in the South Atlantic Conference. With its sixth straight victory, TC improves to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the conference.  Newberry falls to 5-7 and 1-3 in the league.

TC rallied for wins at four of the six singles positions after trailing the match 2-1 after doubles play.

 

Sergio Espinosa, Antonio Oliver, Carlos Garcia, and Nic Janssen all claimed straight-set victories in singles play for the Pioneers.

 

The duo of Oliver and Leo Guaycurus earned Tusculum’s lone victory in doubles play, winning 8-4 at the No. 2 position.

 

The Pioneers will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Clinton, S.C., to face No. 25 Presbyterian.  The match will begin at 1 p.m.
