BOBCATS DOWN TUSCULUM MEN'S TENNIS 5-2

 

                BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's tennis team posted a 5-2 upset win over No. 39 Tusculum College Thursday afternoon.  The Bobcats captured wins in two of the three doubles matches and won three singles matches to post the victory.

 

                Tusculum No. 1 doubles pair of Carlos Garcia and South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week Sergio Espinosa captured TC's first point with an 8-6 pro set win over Shaun Sumner and Rick Velazquez.  But the Bobcats answered with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, to take a 2-1 advantage.

 

                Sumner rallied from a set down to defeat Espinosa at No. 1 singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.  Velazquez and Blair Propert also recorded singles victories to seal the win for the Bobcats.  Garcia accounted for Tusculum's final point of the day with is 6-3, 6-2 win over Romulus Teague at No. 3 singles.

 

                Tusculum (11-4) will host No. 27 Presbyterian College in a SAC showdown at the Nichols Tennis Complex.  The Pioneers and Blue Hose are the only undefeated teams remaining in the conference championship race.
