TUSCULUM MEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS LMU 8-1

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The No. 39 Tusculum College men’s tennis team swept doubles play and captured five of the six singles matches as the Pioneers defeated Lincoln Memorial University 8-1 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

 

                The Pioneers improved to 12-5, while the Railsplitters (0-18) remain winless on the season.

 

                Tusculum opened with a 3-0 lead after doubles, including an 8-2 pro set victory at the No. 2 flight as Henrique Rodrigues and Leo Guaycurus defeated the LMU duo of Matthew Estep and Andras Pauko.

 

                LMU cut into the deficit as LMU’s Lukas Burkon defeated Sergio Espinosa in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.  TC responded with singles victories by Nicolas Bigler, Carlos Garcia, Rodrigues, Guaycurus and Hunter Beal.

 

                Tusculum will host Virginia Intermont College on Friday for a 4 p.m. match.  It will be the final regular season home match for senior Julien Jacob.  LMU will be at Brevard College on Saturday.
