TUSCULUM EARNS NO. 2 SEED FOR

FOOD LION SAC MEN'S TENNIS TOURNAMENT

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum College men's tennis team will be the No. 2 seed at the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, to be held next week announced league officials.

The Pioneers (12-7, 4-2 SAC) finished in a three-way tie for second place in the conference, along with Carson-Newman College and Catawba College.  Tusculum earned the second seed by virtue of a tiebreaker procedure, having recorded 10 points in their contests with Carson-Newman (W 6-3) and Catawba (L 4-5).  C-N earned the third seed by virtue of its 6-3 win over Catawba.

The Pioneers will also receive a bye in the quarterfinals as Wingate University has withdrawn its men's tennis team from the conference tournament.

Tusculum will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 3 Carson-Newman and No. 6 Newberry College on Friday, Apr. 21 at 9 a.m. in Jefferson City, Tenn.  The winner of that semifinal match will advance to Friday's SAC Tournament final beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The Pioneers, ranked No. 37 in NCAA Division II, won the SAC Tournament Championship in 2002.
