TOP-SEEDED TUSCULUM BEATS BEARS 5-0 TO ADVANCE IN

FOOD LION SAC MEN’S TENNIS TOURNAMENT

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Top-seed Tusculum College defeated No. 8 Lenoir-Rhyne College 5-0 in the quarterfinal round of the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament, held Tuesday at the Nichols Tennis Complex.  The Pioneers (18-1), ranked No. 35 in NCAA Division II, advances to Friday’s 3 p.m. semifinal against No. 5 seed Carson-Newman College at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.

 

                Tusculum swept all three doubles points, including an 8-0 victory by the No. 1 duo of Carlos Garcia and Sergio Espinosa over the L-R pairing of Nate Summer and Brad Totten.  Garcia won his 13th straight singles match as he defeated Totten 6-0, 6-0 in the third flight.

 

                Nicolas Bigler was victorious in his No. 1 singles match with Summer, 6-1, 6-0 to seal the win for the Pioneers.  Lenoir-Rhyne ends its season at 0-10 on the year.
