TOP SEED TUSCULUM ADVANCES TO SAC MEN'S TENNIS FINAL

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Top seeded Tusculum College swept through to the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament final with a 5-0 victory over No. 4 seed Catawba College Friday morning at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

Tusculum won all three doubles pairings and did not lose more than three games in any. The Pioneers' top duo of Carlos Garcia (Caracas, Venezuela) and Sergio Espinosa (Caracas, Venezuela) prevailed 8-3 over Jose Valezquez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and Geoff Fouad (Missouri City, Texas).

TC clinched the match with straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles thanks to Jesse Puckerin (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) and Espinosa. Puckerin downed Eric Noll (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) 6-3, 6-2 and Espinosa won 6-1, 6-0 over Alvin Owusu (Powder Springs, Ga.).

Tusculum (13-5) moves on to face No. 2 seed Presbyterian College in the final to be held later today at 1 p.m. Catawba ends its season at 16-7.
