TUSCULUM MEN'S TENNIS BEATS GOLDEN BULLS 8-1

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's tennis team posted an 8-1 win over visiting Johnson C. Smith University Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

 

                Tusculum (2-0) captured two of the three doubles matches and swept the six singles contests.

 

                The No. 1 doubles team of Carlos Garcia and Sergio Espinosa defeated the duo of Justin Stuckey and Romar Douglas 8-5 in pro sets.  Nicolas Bigler and Julien Jacob also won its No. 3 doubles match against the JCSU pair of George Dixon and Frento Burton 8-3.  The Golden Bulls' lone point of the afternoon came at No. 2 doubles as Aaron Hutcherson and Jason Stuckey outlasted Leo Guaycurus and Henrique Rodriguez 8-6

 

                Rodriguez and Guaycurus bounced back in singles, posting wins in their respective contests.  Rodriguez battled Hutcherson in a three-set marathon at the No. 3 flight, winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-2.  Guaycurus won his singles point in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 over Russell McKey in the No. 5 flight.

 

                Bigler, Espinosa, Jacob and Garcia were all victorious in their respective singles outings.

 

                Tusculum wraps up the fall portion of its schedule.  The Pioneers return to action Feb. 23 when TC hosts King College for a 2 p.m. match.
