NO. 7 VULCANS BEAT NO. 40 TUSCULUM WOMEN'S TENNIS 9-0

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- In a battle of nationally ranked women's teams, No. 7 California (Pa.) defeated No. 40 Tusculum College 9-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

 

                The Vulcans (15-1) opened with an 8-4 pro set win at No. 1 doubles as the pair of Inga Chilingaryan and Yumi Matsuto defeated the TC duo of Danae Valderrama and Samantha Cantu.  Chilingaryan and Matsuto are currently ranked fifth in the nation (NCAA Division II) in doubles competition.

 

                California also picked up singles wins by Chilingaryan, Matsuto, Lisa Santoro, Helena Eysendeyk, Nina Reiswich and Olga Alekseeva.  Chilingaryan is present listed 15th in the country, while Santoro holds a No. 32 national ranking in singles play.

 

                The Pioneers (5-2) will open South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday when they host Lenoir-Rhyne College for a 4 p.m. match at the Nichols Tennis Complex.  The Vulcans will be at Limestone College on Wednesday.
